2012 Spring TengChong Yunnan

4/2 - It's the first day of the Tomb Sweeping holiday so the traffic to the airport was very congested. We were the last few to check in at the counter. When we get to Tengchong, we found the only road to He Shun was under construction, so again we were in traffic for nearly an hour. The day didn't end well as the booking agency messed up our hotel reservation, so we had to change to a local guesthouse last minute. 

 4/3 - He Shun town isn't as developed as other ancient towns that we have been. The town itself isn't very organized, but at least the surrounding fields, mountains, wetlands, creeks make up for the shortfall.

4/4 - Visited Rehai (hot sea) which is famous for the numerous mineral-rich springs and geysers, including the "big boiling pot", "pearl spring", "sisters spring", "frog mouth", etc. Kids boiled some eggs while we soaked feet in the almost boiling water from the "big boiling pot". In the afternoon, we went to the Beauty Pool hot spring for some real spa time. Kids had tons of fun in the big pool.

  • Yun Feng Mountain -  A Taoist mountain situated ~50km NW of Tengchong near the Myanmar border. We took the cable car to the middle, then headed to the main temple of Yunfeng Si located at the peak. Good panoramic view of the area at the mountain's summit. After quick lunch at the cable car station (instant noodle and egg fried rice), we headed down.
  • Volcano Park - has eight well-preserved volcanoes from the Cenozoic era. We went up to Dakong Mountain & Xiaokong Mountain.
  • On the way out, we went to 节状柱理which are some lava cascades. Then onto Black Fish River where we had dinner and tasted the black fish from the river.

4/6 -  
  • Passed North Sea Wetland on way to Gao Li Gong Mountain. Unfortunately grass was still half yellow, so we only took some photo from the roadside.
  • Wild Cherry Tree Valley - wild cherry blossom was long over, but the park was very natural and still enjoyable. Kids had a good dip in the natural hot spring. 
高黎贡山自然保护区，距县城26公里，海拔1450—1850米，年平均气温16℃。景区只汇集了高黎贡山亚热带阔叶原始森林，天然温泉群，形态各异的瀑布，溪流，奇石等奇特的地质，地貌自然景观，在不同的海拔生长着不同的植物，从山顶的高海拔针叶林到河谷的蕨类、藤本植物，还有生长在岩石上的千年阔叶巨树，是高黎贡山自然景观的一个缩影。

Last day in Tengchong, LG went golfing while I took the boys to visit a couple of local sites:
  • Die Shui He Waterfall - waterfall was impressive enough but the water didn't look all that clean. Hardly any people were in the small park, so we took our time to stroll around.
  • Guo Shang Cemetary - built in honor of thousands of Chinese Expeditionary Army soldiers who died in the anti-Japansese war during WWII

国殇墓园位于中国云南省西部的腾冲县城西南1公里处的叠水河畔、来凤山北麓，是为纪念抗日战争时期中国远征军第二十集团军攻克腾冲战斗中阵亡将士而建的墓园，目前是中国规模最大、保存也最完整的抗战时期正面战场阵亡将士纪念陵园。
