I have seen Hanging Monastery featured on many magazines and travel channels, finally had chance to visit. This ancient construction wonder is only ~3 hours from Beijing.
Hanging Monastery built in 491, survived more than 1400 years on the cliffs of Jinxia Gorge. I don't have acrophobia, but this place gives me vertigo. I just couldn't wait to get down.
Start to feel the dusty air and dirty highway as we enter Shan Xi which is a major coal mining region. Datong is very gloomy with many muddy looking houses around.
70Km South of Datong, a Wooden Pagoda is the oldest and highest wooden structure in Chian. One section on the top was damaged by bombs during the Japanese invasion but couldn't be restored.
Yungang Grottoes, one of the three major cave clusters in China.
